Short Timers Disease is military slang used to describe the abject disinterest a soon to be departing serviceman has in doing anything save getting the hell out of the military.  I’m experiencing a severe recurrence; except this time I just feel like getting the hell out of New Orleans for a while, and as soon as possible. Thursday morning will suffice.

Yesterday and today, I packed, unpacked, weeded out, and repacked until my acquired metrosexual tendencies degraded to match the minimalism of Grandpa Walton.  But I couldn’t stop myself from bringing all kinds of things that may or may not be of use on the road, say like granola…but I resisted bringing my bib overalls. He who travels lightest…

This bag mounts on the “luggage rack” and is a bit larger than a carry on bag.

Public reaction to this trip has been varied.  Some think I’ve lost my mind, and they may be correct but the main has fallen someplace between bewilderment and concern; fear of risk being the most compelling influence. But I see this trip as a grand adventure, life changing, and when I return, I’ll know more about life than when I left.

I’m packed and ready to go!  Estimated trip distance: Between 5 and 7 thousand miles.  That ought to keep me occupied for a while!

Got the big green light from both Docs, I’m in good form, and 07:00 is blast off time… tomorrow’s destination is Shreveport, Louisiana.
